This Thing is From Me
by Jean Mallory

‘This Thing is from Me’, is a portion of a Scripture given to the Israelites in 1 Kings 12:24.

God knew His people would face division into two nations. The punishment was designed by God because of their idolatry and sin. It was how God would secure a faithful remnant of His followers Eventually God’s purpose would be fulfilled with a Redeemer who would be born of His people.

Difficulties, problems and troubles, why do we face these things? Shouldn’t Christians be exempt from trials? Do trials come from God? When we read God’s Word, we realize that Christians have always gone through suffering and trials. Moses, David, Joseph, Job, Paul, the disciples and many more all went through their own suffering times. There are many reasons for our own trials. Everything that affects us must pass through God. He controls all things. He gives things, controls them or gives permission for them. Some people through disobedience or sin, bring the problem on themselves. Some trials are to mature and develop a Christian for future usefulness. God will allow evil attacks only if a greater good will come out of them. There is always a reason for a troubled time. We might not know or understand this reason.

This writing might give help and comfort when going through trials. It would be an excellent gift for a friend or loved one facing a problem.

The Necessity of Prayer

And all things, whatever ye shall ask in prayer, believing, ye shall receive. – Matthew 21:22

Persistent prayer is a mighty movement of the soul toward God, and it stirs the deepest forces of the soul toward the throne of heavenly grace. It is the ability to hold on, press on, and wait. Restless desire, restful patience, and strength of grasp are all embraced in it. Prayer is not an incident or a performance but a passion of soul. It is not a want or half-needed desire but a sheer necessity.

The inventor of the world’s first clock is punished for trying to measure God’s greatest gift. He is banished to a cave for centuries and forced to listen to the voices of all who come after him seeking more days, more years.

Eventually, with his soul nearly broken, Father Time is granted his freedom, along with a magical hourglass and a mission: a chance to redeem himself by teaching two earthly people the true meaning of time.

Told in Albom’s signature spare, evocative prose, this remarkably original tale will inspire readers everywhere to reconsider their own notions of time, how they spend it, and how precious it truly is.

A Praying Life

Prayer is hard. Often, unless circumstances demand it—such as an illness or saying grace before a meal—most of us simply do not pray. This kind of prayerlessness can leave us with a distressed spirit and practical unbelief characterized by fear, anxiety, joylessness, and spiritual depression.

A Praying Life is a prayer guide that has encouraged thousands of Christians to pursue a vibrant prayer life full of joy and power and has helped them learn how to pray faithfully and courageously. A life of prayer invites you to a life of connection to God. When Jesus describes the intimacy that He seeks with us, He talks about joining us for dinner (Revelation 3:20). This book reminds readers that prayer is simply making conversation with God a rhythm of daily Christian life.

The Great Omission
by Dallas Willard

The last command Jesus gave the church before he ascended to heaven was the Great Commission, the call for Christians to “make disciples of all the nations.” But Christians have responded by making “Christians,” not “disciples.” This, according to brilliant scholar and renowned Christian thinker Dallas Willard, has been the church’s Great Omission.

In his earlier books Dallas Willard has laid out the principal ideas for a revolutionary understanding of what the Christian life is really about. This volume collects articles, talks, and interviews where Willard explains the practical application of his ideas. He answers such questions as what does it mean to be Jesus’ disciple? How does God teach us? How do we know what God wants for us? How do we explain Jesus to others? And much more.
